đŸŒ± Learning Korean

How long does it take to learn Korean?

According to the U.S. Foreign Service Institute (FSI), Korean takes around 2,200 hours of study for English speakers to reach professional fluency. In practice, learners who study 1–2 hours a day can hold simple conversations within 6–12 months. Full fluency often takes 2–3 years, but Korean becomes much easier once you master Hangul and the main grammar patterns — progress builds quickly after the first few months.

Should I learn Hangul (the Korean alphabet) first?

Yes, definitely. Hangul is one of the easiest writing systems to learn — most people master it in just a few days. Reading Korean directly (instead of romanization) makes pronunciation clearer, improves memory, and helps you understand how words are actually built.

Why are “Core Systems” separate?

Because they’re the foundation of everything in Korean. Core Systems include counters, honorifics, hanja roots, mimetic words, collocations, idioms, and connectors — elements that appear across all levels. They’re not optional; understanding them helps you grasp how Korean really works, connect grammar and vocabulary naturally, and sound more fluent overall.

đŸ’» About LearningwithYoa

Where should I start?

Start with Lessons if you want step-by-step explanations, or explore Vocabulary if you prefer learning by topic. Visit Core Systems anytime — they strengthen everything else you study.

Are all materials free?

Yes, everything on LearningwithYoa is completely free to explore.

Can I use your content in class or on my blog?

Please don’t repost or redistribute full content. You’re welcome to quote short parts or reference our materials as long as you credit and link back to LearningwithYoa.

Do you accept suggestions or collaborations?

Yes! We’re always happy to connect with other learners and creators. Feel free to reach out through the Contact page with your ideas, feedback, or collaboration proposals.

Will you keep adding new lessons or topics?

Yes — that’s the plan! Both Lessons and Vocabulary will keep expanding as time allows. Once all main sections are uploaded, the Blog will be updated regularly with new articles, culture topics, and improvements based on user feedback sent through the Contact page.
I’m currently building everything alone, so updates may take time — but new content will keep coming little by little.

Are you a native Korean speaker?

No — I’m learning Korean too! Everything on LearningwithYoa is created as I study and organize the material. That’s why your feedback is so valuable — if you notice any mistakes, have suggestions, or think something could be explained better, please reach out through the Contact page. This project grows and improves together with the community.

Why did you create a Korean learning website if you’re not native?

LearningwithYoa began as part of a digital marketing project — honestly, I just needed a topic for a website and couldn’t think of anything at first. Then, while watching a K-drama, I thought: why not build something educational and creative around Korean learning?
It turned out to be the perfect way to combine what I know about marketing and UX design with a topic that sparks curiosity and creativity. The project grew naturally — not from expertise, but from the challenge of building something genuinely useful and easy to explore.
It might even be helpful for me in the future, since while creating the site I’m also learning bits of Korean myself (even if I don’t remember everything right away).

Why learn Korean with you if you’re not native?

Because LearningwithYoa is built with genuine curiosity, accessibility, and modern tools.
I’m just a beginner myself — learning step by step — but I’m doing my best to make this project clear, helpful, and constantly improving over time.

I use the latest AI and design methods to create structured, beginner-friendly materials — and everything here is COMPLETELY FREE, unlike most learning platforms.

I’m not an official Korean teacher or exam coach (nor do I claim to be — if you want to study Korean professionally, the best option will always be learning directly from native teachers in real-time).
My goal is simply to build and share high-quality study resources while improving my own understanding.

My personal hope is to one day enjoy K-dramas without subtitles — and to help others learn along the way.
That’s why communication is so important:
if you spot any mistakes, have suggestions, or want to see specific topics covered, please reach out.
LearningwithYoa grows through collaboration — we’re learning together, after all.

And just to clarify — I’m not a native English speaker either (I’m Spanish).
But I’ve reached a level that allows me to create a full website in English, and as someone who’s achieved this level of proficiency in a second language, I believe I can do a pretty decent job!
I also hope that this process helps me keep improving my English skills along the way.

I chose to build LearningwithYoa in English because, in my experience, learning Korean through English is often easier:
many Korean terms and learning resources are explained in ways that connect naturally with English vocabulary and grammar.

In the future, I’d love to create a full Spanish version of this project too — but first, my focus is on finishing the English site completely
and there’s still a long way to go!
